In the Battle of Plassey fought in 1757, Lord Robert Clive of the English East India Company defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah, the ruling Nawab of Bengal. Although Siraj-ud-Daulah had a much larger army, the English victory was achieved through political conspiracy and betrayal, especially by Mir Jafar, one of the Nawab’s commanders.
